Another record year

Today our parent company announced annual sales for Amway and its sister companies, and it was another record year.

Alticor sales of US$8.4 billion for 2009 represent a 2.3 percent increase over 2008.  We’ve posted sales increases nine out of the last 10 years, and our growth rate would have been higher if not for currency fluctuations.  Without the negative currency impact, we would have grown nearly 6 percent.  Our China, India, Southeast Asian and Korean affiliates posted strong sales and our reinvented Latin American affiliate grew more than 60 percent.

We believe a focus on innovation is what’s propelling our business forward.  A big part of our strategy is reaching consumers where they are  – whether through an iPhone app in the United States or  sachets of shampoo in South Africa.  Or launching new product lines to meet the needs of consumers, like beautycycle in Europe and Ertia in Latin America.   We’re even bringing in new talent and expertise to help us grow.

These investments in transformation and innovation are paying off in increased sales and market share.  And another record year.

Amway has fan with major Indian pub

India’s prestigious Economic Times takes a shine to the changes and global expansion afoot at Amway during a turbulent worldwide economy.

The Times recently interviewed Amway president Doug DeVos, who noted in part that our company’s private ownership structure as well as our deep-seated inroads in India, China and Russia gives us a leg up on our competitors. China’s success, in particular, hints at changes to come at other Amway affiliates around the world. To Doug’s point in the article, change will help Amway to thrive over “the next 50 years and beyond.”

While we might nitpick a few points in the article, we gladly accept the Times’ pat on our back.

Another fresh look at Amway

For another outsider’s view of the changes afoot at Amway, take a peek at MiBiz’s Joe Boomgaard’s take on the transformation at the company. Joe, the weekly’s associate editor, has developed a keen interest in all things Amway over the last year. Previous stories delve into Amway’s research strengths, our employee wellness program and our new chief financial officer, Russ Evans.

Joe is among the growing circle of reporters tapping into the expertise of Amway’s employees and periodically gauging the progress of our ongoing transformation. And you know what? It feels good getting attention for the good things happening at Amway around the world.

Announced and revealed

It’s a good morning in Ada, where we’ve just announced our annual results for 2008. As we enter our 50th anniversary year, we are proud to see some early and encouraging results of our corporate transformation. In this global climate, we’re certainly excited to share an increase of more than 15 percent in sales over last year. This year, two thirds of our markets grew, and more than half of our 58 worldwide affiliates posted increases of more than 10 percent. Truly, this year’s success was a global one.

We’re also proudly unveiling a new Amway Media Blog today. Throughout this year, there will be some visible changes as we unify the global direct selling business. This is one of them. We have now archived both the “old” Amway Media Blog and the Alticor Media Blog, but of course we’ll still answer any questions on topics we previously covered.

Going forward, we will be able to relay the news that matters most at Amway through one voice, here at this site. Here’s the news of the day:
