Do you believe in Magic?

Amway does. So much so that starting today we’re sponsoring Orlando Magic training camps and player practice jerseys.  It’s the the first season in which the National Basketball Association has granted permission to have a sponsorship presence on team practice jerseys, and we’re stepping up to the line.

We’ve also stepped up our presence in Orlando. As announced earlier this year, Amway acquired the naming rights to the new Amway Center, scheduled to open in the fall of 2010. In addition to being the home court for the Orlando Magic, Amway Center will play host to an array of national events, concerts and family shows.

Our chief marketing officer Candace Matthews calls this a unique opportunity to build pride in the Amway business around the world. “Both Amway and the Magic have fans around the world, and in both organizations, we are committed to the hard work it takes to succeed.”

The Amway-tagged jerseys will be worn during Magic training camps, regular-season practices, post-season practices and pre-game shoot-arounds.

Between the jerseys, training camps, and Amway Center opening next year, Amway’s going to be hard to miss in Orlando.

Clear impact

Many of us take clean drinking water for granted.

Yet each year, 1.8 million children worldwide die due to diarrhea-related illness, largely caused by unclean water and inadequate sanitation. Around the world, 400 million people do not have access to safe drinking water.

It’s clearly a serious issue, and one a couple of Amway affiliates are committed to doing something about through their One by One programs.

Amway India has installed water purifiers in schools, orphanages, and institutions in 52 cities through the Amway Opportunity Foundation’s “Project Sunshine.”  Since its launch in January, Project Sunshine has made a difference in the lives of 3,350 children in India.

Amway Korea sent a One by One team to Bangladesh earlier this year, and among other things, installed 30 water pumps and toilet facilities in Ghatail.

Installing toilets, water pumps, and purifiers might not make headlines, but the impact these projects will make in the lives of children is clear.

Closing the gap

phyto-chart-mid1What do 88 percent of Americans have in common? They aren’t eating enough foods that are blue and purple. And that’s a shame, because blackberries, blueberries, grapes and plums do some pretty amazing things in the body.

Today, our Nutrilite brand released America’s Phytonutrient Report, the first major analysis of fruit and vegetable consumption by color. So whether it’s yellow/orange, green, or the blues that your diet might be missing, you can find out what it all means here.

Along with the report, Nutrilite unveiled the Phytonutrient Spectrum to make the colors, health benefits, and fruits and vegetables associated with key nutrients easy to follow and understand. All of this was showcased at a New York farmer’s market that offered free fruits and vegetables as well as bushels of advice on eating more colorfully and better.

Check out the full online press kit to learn more, and follow The Coloring Book blog for continued tips on how to close those dietary gaps.

Thinking globally, helping locally

When we heard about the earthquakes that have devastated regions in Indonesia, our first step was to reach out to our Amway Indonesia colleagues to determine the impact of the quakes on staff and business owners.

Our next move was to determine how we could help. As part of our Disaster Response Plan, we’ve worked with Amway Indonesia since the quakes to determine how we can support relief and rebuilding efforts, as well as take care of the business concerns of our business owners in that market.

Amway’s One by One Blog details the efforts underway in Indonesia, including the early response efforts spearheaded by Amway Indonesia employees.

As a global company operating in more than 80 countries and territories, our responsibilities extend far beyond our west Michigan headquarters to the hundreds of cities and communities in which we operate around the world.

Down under connections

When it comes to getting connected, Amway Australia/New Zealand has the hook up.

Amway has teamed up with one of the world’s largest mobile phone companies, Vodafone, to provide service to New Zealand Independent Business Owners. Vodafone will better equip Amway business owners when connecting to their customers.

And the company’s got some high profile connections as well. A recent advertorial in The Australian linked the company to sprint star Libby Trickett and cricket player Adam Gilchrist and connected Aussies to the company, products, and business opportunity.

Our Australian PR mate Kevin Lowe began blogging earlier this year to share a down under perspective on Amway’s 50th anniversary events in the U.S. Now Kev is at it again, blogging about Amway Australia/New Zealand’s Achievers event in Tokyo. That’ll keep all of us connected with what’s going on at the business recognition event.

Connecting with customers and business owners is what we’re all about - down under or wherever we operate.

Super 75th

The celebration of Nutrilite’s 75th anniversary is too big to be contained to the brand’s hometown of Buena Park, California, or even this continent.

Nutrilite hosted an event in September for employees to celebrate 75 years of helping people live healthier lives. But that was just a warm-up for the super celebration that’ll bring the world’s leading brand of vitamin and mineral supplements to hundreds of thousands of people in some of Amway’s biggest markets.

The Nutrilite 75th Anniversary Super Tour will stop in nine Asian countries from October 9 to November 13. Health-conscious consumers and business owners from China to Singapore will participate in fun walks, health carnivals, and other events designed to help people learn how to achieve optimal health. Dr. Sam Rehnborg, the son of Nutrilite’s founder Carl Rehnborg and president of the Nutrilite Health Institute, will be there every leg of the journey to celebrate wellness and commemorate the anniversary. You can follow the tour at Nutrilite’s Facebook page.

It’s a super way to celebrate 75 years.

Outside the (penalty) box

Think “Dancing with the Stars,” Canadian-style. Which, of course, means on ice.

On Sunday, October 4, the Battle of the Blades television series, a seven-week elimination-style reality show that pairs former NHL’ers with elite female figure skaters, hits Canadian television. Each week, the pairs compete until only one is left standing.

What does this have to do with Amway? Not only do we find it entertaining that hockey greats like Claude Lemieux and Bob Probert are trading in their skates and sticks for sequins, but also, Artistry Skin Care and Cosmetics is an official sponsor and will be used backstage each week to make the contestants camera-ready.

In the end, $100,000 will go to a Canadian charity such as Make-A-Wish, the Diabetes Hope Foundation or Wounded Warriors. And that makes us feel all warm inside.

Change in Latitude

This week Dell launched its latest laptop with something no other PC has — eCoupled wireless charging capabilities.

The Latitude Z is the first laptop to use the proprietary technology developed and marketed by Fulton Innovation, part of the Amway family of companies. It’s a change of attitude for the computer maker that’ll create a change in Latitude for laptop owners.

But that’s not all. Fulton also this week issued a white paper and video to help consumers understand how wireless power works and the ways it can simplify their lives.

Powerful stuff.

Squeaky clean

Legacy of CleanAmway and soap. There’s certainly a history there.

Back in the day, a multi-purpose cleaner and laundry detergent were the first products sold by Amway business owners. And even though we’ve become a leader in health and beauty, our roots run deep in the home.

That’s why we’ve launched new products and upgraded formulas in our Legacy of Clean line of dish, laundry, and surface cleaners in North America. The line consists of 11 products that are earth-sensitive and don’t leave harsh chemicals, fumes, or residues behind. Video and photos tell the whole story.

The next episode in this soap opera? Upgrades to our already high-performing, safe, and green home care products in Europe and Asia are on the horizon for 2010/2011.

Air quotes

Atmosphere Air Purifier width=It’s the first day of fall in the states, and for a tortured percentage of us, the beginning of a new allergy season.

Thankfully, pharmacist Jim Morelli gave television and radio audiences in Altanta, Buffalo, Wichita, Kansas City and several other U.S. markets some advice on fighting indoor allergens, including using the Atmosphere Air Purifier.

Between this and the product’s recent certification  by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, we’re in the clouds.
